'Northdown' off Harwich

The 'Northdown' is an 86 ton Thames Sailing Barge built in Whitstable by Anderson Rigden in 1924. It was the last wooden barge built by the firm, and reputedly the last built in England. In 1991 she went to the Port Musée (Maritime Museum) in Douarnenez, France, but by 2016 she was to be found in a mud berth away from the Museum. As well as being a cargo boat, she spent some time as a houseboat, and was the winner of several keenly contested races.
