Frederick Bertrand Harnack
An oil, watercolour and woodcut artist, who specialised in marine subjects. He lived for many years at West Mersea, in Essex, and exhibited at the RA, RSMA, and elsewhere. He was a keen yachtsman himself, and an enthusiast for square-rigged sailing ships. He was an illustrator for yachting magazines, and was elected to the Society of Marine Artists in 1949.

The 'old oyster sheds' on Coast Road, West Mersea (to the right of the picture), were demolished in January 2011.
