Jack Rolfe

Jack Rolfe was inspired by the landscapes of Constable, and by his love of Hampstead Heath, where he courted his wife during the 1930s. The great East Anglian painter's influence shines through Jack Rolfe's work, and Rolfe became affectionately known as "Constable's Hampstead Legend". Jack Rolfe's artistic talent was first noticed during WW2 while driving tanks in Libya, and he was appointed official sign writer by the officer in charge. He took up painting full-time on retirement in 1977.
